The 7 Best Robot Mops for 2023

You’ve seen robot vacuums – the little automatic vacuum cleaners that scoot around your home cleaning your carpets – but did you know there are also robot mops? Armed with a water tank and microfiber cloths or mop pads that clean your tile and hardwood floors automatically, a robot mop can be incredibly useful addition to your cleaning routine. There are even mop-vacuum hybrids.

We researched and tested the best robots available and found seven of the best — three dedicated robot mops and eight mop-vacuum hybrids — that will help keep your floors clean.

Additional Top Picks

Ecovacs Deebot X1 Omni

Bottom Line

The Ecovacs Deebot X1 Omni offers a fantastic hands-off cleaning experience. The cleaning station empties the robot’s dustbin, cleans its mop and refills the water tank. And, best of all, it won’t mop your carpeting.

Roborock S7+

Bottom Line

The Roborock S7+, the company’s previous top-of-the-line unit, doesn’t have the advanced AI object-avoidance capabilities or security camera functions of the new S7 Max Ultra, but for previous-generation models, it’s about as good as it gets.

Eufy RoboVac X8 Hybrid

Bottom Line

The Eufy RoboVac X8 Hybrid is a Wi-Fi-connected mop-vacuum hybrid with high-end features like smart navigation and in-app mapping and scheduling, but it only does an average job vacuuming and mopping.

ECOVACS Deebot N8 Pro+

Bottom Line

Another Ecovacs winner, but at a much lower price point than the X1 Omni

Is a Robot Mop Worth the Money?

If you have a lot of hardwood or tile floors, a robot mop can help you keep things clean just like a robot vacuum can. Like robot vacuums, mopping robots aren’t really good at being a complete floor cleaning system. They can’t reach every corner of your home and don’t have the capacity to replace full-size machines, but they absolutely make cleaning easier and less frequent. And, honestly, who really likes mopping all the time anyway?

Mopping robots also aren’t going to get your floors as clean as a little hard scrubbing by hand or with a handheld mop. They really don’t scrub t all, just wipe the surface – like Swiffer. And most won’t tackle the greasiest or stickiest spills since they only use water to clean.

If you are tight on space, a hybrid robot mop-vacuums may be worth it. These robots work like a normal robot vacuum and sweep hard floors and low-pile carpets, but they will also mop. All hybrids, however (except for the high-end models) will mop your carpets if you aren’t careful. You might want to plan on only using carrying them in locations where they are needed.

These more-advanced hybrid mop vacuums, like the Ecovacs Deebot X1 and Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra, are impressive though, and really do perform as advertised. If more hands-off cleaning is what you’re looking for, these might be worth the spend. They do get pricey.

If you’re interested in the most effective robot mop — say you have more hard floors than carpets and don’t mind attaching the mopping pads when you want to mop — the Ecovacs Deebot Omni X1 has more useful features, like the ability to self-dry the mopping pads and an on-board voice assistant for robot control.

If you have lots of low-pile carpeting and want a robot that’s a good vacuum and can take care of a smaller amount of mopping on a single pass through your house without having to swap out tools, get the Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra, which can lift its mop while it goes over the carpets.

The Best of the Best

Best Overall

iRobot Brava Jet M6

The compact, inexpensive iRobot Braava Jet M6 is simply the best robot mop for the money. While it can’t do double duty as a vacuum, its efficient design and simple pattern-based navigation deliver impressive cleaning.

What’s Good

Advanced artificial intelligence lets the m6 map your house, understand keep-out zones, respond to voice commands and navigate obstacles and stairs. You can adjust how much water or cleaning solution you need for mopping but also set it to dry sweep if you need to.. It cleans the room in efficient, neat rows, covering every inch of the floor, including edges without ever going on carpeting. You can also set it to target specific areas within a room and head back to the dock to recharge when necessary. A larger water tank also than previous models also means you don’t have to refill as often.

What’s Not So Good

Additional smarts and Wi-Fi enabled gives advanced capabilities when operating as a vacuum, but don’t really help the mopping functions. It mops much like older, more inexpensive models.

Best High-End Hybrid Mop/Vacuum

Bissell SpinWave 2-in-1 Robotic Mop and Vacuum

The Bissell SpinWave 2-in-1 Robotic Mop and Vacuum is an efficient robot mop-vacuum hybrid with good performance. If mopping the floors is something you do regularly, and you’re looking for a hybrid model that doesn’t cost a fortune, the Bissell SpinWave 2-in-1 Robotic Mop and Vacuum is the right robot for you.

What’s Good

Dual spinning pads make the Bissel SpinWave much more effective than standard flat mop pads employed on other models. It does a great job of getting up dirt and spills without leaving streaks. The SpinWave can also use cleaning products, rather than just water, and Bissell includes a trial size bottle of multi-surface floor cleaner when you purchase.

What’s Not So Good

You have to switch tanks to go from vacuum to mop, but it’s easy to do. Sensors help automatically detect and avoid carpeting when it’s mopping., but this isn’t perfect and the edges of the carpet can get wet.

Best Hybrid Mop/Vacuum

Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra Robot Vacuum and Mop

The Roborock S7+, the company’s previous top-of-the-line unit, doesn’t have the advanced AI object-avoidance capabilities or security camera functions of the new S7 Max Ultra, but for previous-generation models, it’s about as good as it gets.

What’s Good

The Roborock S7 MaxV can transition from vacuuming mode to mop mode automatically, a feature called “VibraRise”, meaning you don’t have to swap tools manually. The robot does a nice job on hardwood floors, mopping the whole width of the pad and leaving no streaks, something less expensive models have difficulty with.

What’s Not So Good

The Ultra Empty Wash Fill Dock is very large and bulky, though not as large as the Deebot X1. Additionally, the power cord in the back is very thick and long with no space to coil it. The water tanks are not see-through either, which isn’t really a problem until you want to check the water levels- you need to pull them out and open them to see.

Additional Top Picks

Ecovacs Deebot X1 Omni

The Ecovacs Deebot X1 Omni offers a fantastic hands-off cleaning experience. The cleaning station empties the robot’s dustbin, cleans its mop and refills the water tank. And, best of all, it won’t try and mop your carpeting.

What’s Good

The Deebot X1 has dual spinning mop pads, similar to the Bissell SpinWave, that provide better scrubbing capability than the flat cloth style used on other robots. This makes the Deebot X1 a great robot for mopping and vacuuming. An array of detection systems combined with advanced mapping software, effective automation and remote control gives it an uncanny ability to detect and avoid carpets.

The Deebot X1 Omni auto-empty docking station has tanks for both dirty and clean water, as well as one for dust and debris. This makes for a fairly massive unit, 5 inches taller than the corresponding Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra dock, which is pretty massive itself.

What’s Not So Good

The Deebot X1 Omni lacks a dedicated spot-cleaning or edge-cleaning mode. You can use the app or voice controls to clean a specific area, but it does take a few extra steps. The robot can only use plain water to clean – no soap or floor-cleaning solution, unlike some other models. And, yes, it’s very expensive.

Roborock S7+

The Roborock S7+ used to be the company’s top-of-the-line unit so it doesn’t have the advanced AI object-avoidance capabilities or security camera functions of the newew S7 Max Ultra. For older models, though, it’s about as good as it gets.

What’s Good

The S7+ vacuums well – as it detects carpet, it increases suction. For mopping, the robot uses “Sonic Mopping,” a function that vibrates the mopping pad very quickly to break up dirt. For spot cleaning, it also has a “high intensity mopping” mode.

What’s Not So Good

While the S7+ uses Lidar navigation to map the house, it sometimes has trouble with it. Initially, it tends to go through the same room a few times to get an accurate map, and if it goes back to recharge, it starts the mapping process over.

Eufy RoboVac X8 Hybhttps://amzn.to/40hgtTRrid

The Eufy RoboVac X8 Hybrid is a Wi-Fi-connected mop-vacuum hybrid with high-end features like smart navigation and in-app mapping and scheduling, but it only does an average job vacuuming and mopping. To make space for the water tank, the dust bin is slightly smaller than in the standalone X8 vacuum we reviewed in our test of the best robot vacuums, and the mop functionality is lacking. There are no mop-specific controls so you can’t adjust how much water is put down for a specific task.

What’s Good

One of the more efficient robots – mops and vacuums in a single pass. Some other models require swapping out the dust bin and water tank to change from vacuum to mop and back. Includes a translucent mat to protect your floor if you keep the mop cloth on while charging.

What’s Not So Good

There are no mop-specific controls so you can’t adjust how much water is put down for a specific task. Mapping can be frustrating and inconsistent. You can create no-go zones to keep the mop off your carpeting, but these don’t always stay in memory and are sometimes ignored. Only does an average job of mopping and vacuuming.

ECOVACS Deebot N8 Pro+

A versatile machine that self-cleans and operates across both carpet and hardwood floors.

What’s Good

Automatically detects hardwood floors and carpets, then adjusts its to clean them properly. Laser-based 3D technology allows it to map your home environment on its own or you can set your own. Full package comes with an emptying station, mopping pads, side brushes, air filter, and more.

What’s Not So Good

Has been known to miss pet hair. May not be the best choice for pet owners.
